A Guide to Betting on EuroCup Basketball

EuroCup Basketball, often simply called the EuroCup, is a professional basketball club competition that has been organised by Euroleague Basketball since 2002.

It is hotly contested each year as the winner qualifies for the following season’s EuroLeague, which is arguably the most prestigious competition after the NBA. The competition starts with 24 teams and each team plays two games (home and away) against every other team in its group, this is known as the Regular Season. There is then a group stage consisting of the top 16 teams before the playoffs. Each playoff series is a best of three and the winners advance to the next round. The finals are also a best of three series.

So far, the title has been won by 11 clubs, 3 of which have won it more than once. The EuroCup also offers several awards, such as the Most Valuable Player, the Finals MVP, the Rising Star, and the Coach of Year.

Betting on the EuroCup

You can bet on every stage of the EuroCup from the first games of the regular season right through to the finals. There are bets on the tournament as a whole as well as bets on the individual games. Here we will explain the main types of bets so that you can start building a betting strategy.

EuroCup Outrights

These are the bets that relate to the competition as a whole rather than one game. The most basic bet is on which team will be crowned champions, e.g. betting on Monaco to win.

Game Winner

This is the most straightforward bet you can place on any EuroCup game. You are simply backing one of the teams to win. For example, you can bet on MoraBanc Andorra to beat Slask Wroclaw.

Game Handicap

This type of bet makes betting on the favourite to win more attractive as the odds will be longer. This is because the favourite is given a points handicap that they must overcome in order to win. For example, in a game between BC Lietkabelis and KK Partizan Belgrade, it may look something like this:

BC Lietkabelis -4.5                            KK Partizan Belgrade +4.5

If you were to bet on BC Lietkabelis, you need them to win the game by at least 5 points for you to win the bet. If you were to bet on KK Partizan Belgrade, then you would win the bet if they win the game or lose by no more than 4 points.

Points Total

As suggested by the name, this is a bet on the total number of points that will be scored. It is important to note that it is the total of the points scored by both teams. However, you do not have to bet on a specific number, rather you are betting on whether the total will be above or below the number given in the bet. For example, if JL Bourg Basket were playing Valencia Basket then you could bet on there being more or less than 133.5 points. Often, there will be several options for you to choose from.

There are many more bets that work in the same way. For instance, you can bet on the number of points scored by one of the teams rather than the combined total of points or the total points scored in one half.

Game Winning Margin

This is a bet on how many points a team may win by. You need to select one of the ranges provided. For example, you could bet on Gran Canaria to beat Bursaspor by 1-2 points, 3-6 points, 7-9 points, 10-13 points, and so on.

First Half/Full Time

This bet requires you to predict the situation at halftime and then who will win the game. For instance in a game between Metropolitans 92 and Hamburg Towers, you can bet on Metropolitans 92 to be ahead at halftime and win, you can bet on the teams to be tying at halftime and then Hamburg to win, and so on.

Player Proposition Bets

These are bets on the performance of individual players. There are bets relating to how many points a player will score, rebounds and assists. In each case, the bets work using the over/under principle. For example, you can bet on Lukas Meisner scoring more or less than 5.5 goals.

Game Proposition Bets

There are many different types of bets in this market. For example, you can bet on which team will be the first to score 5/10/20/30/40/50 points, how many 3-point shots there will be in a game, which team will win each of the quarters, which team will score first in the game, and more.

Many More Bets

There are numerous more bets available on EuroCup games, but using the principles described above, like handicap markets and over/under, you will have no problem understanding them. Take the time to explore them all and see if you can spot any winning opportunities.
