MMA ONE Championship Betting Guide

The ONE Championship is a Singaporean combat sports event that takes place annually. It was launched in 2011 by Chatri Sityodtong and Victor Cui, with the goal of bringing major competition to the Asian market and promoting Asian fighting styles and fighters. The competition was an instant hit, drawing massive crowds and exposing many talented but unknown fighters. In keeping with the Asian culture, the competition puts a real emphasis on respecting fights and promoting integrity, honour, and discipline. You will not find the same trash-talking, aggressive behaviour, taunting and other types of tactical intimidation that can be found in other major MMA competitions. The competition is highly praised by international promoters, who support its ethos.

Rules of the Fights

ONE Championship uses its own rules, which have elements of Asian fighting practices and non-Asian fighting practices. Generally, fights last three rounds, but championship matches have a maximum of five rounds. Fighters can win matches either by knockout, submission, technical knockout, referee intervention, disqualification, technical decision, or by judge's decision.

The judges can award fighters points based on the following in order of importance:

  • Reducing an opponent to near knockout
  • Making damaging strikes
  • Combination of strikes and skill level of strikes
  • Successful takedowns
  • Aggression

Striking the groin, throat, trachea, or back of the head is strictly prohibited, as is stomping on a grounded opponent's head, head butting, hair pulling, eye gouging, spitting, and other provocative moves.

There are 9 different weight classes for male fighters, and 4 for females. For male fighters, the weight classes are Strawweight, Flyweight, Bantamweight, Featherweight, Lightweight, Welterweight, Middleweight, Light Heavyweight, and Heavyweight. For female fighters, the weight classes are Atomweight, Strawweight, Flyweight, and Bantamweight.

How to Bet on the One Championship

To Win

This is simply a bet on which fighter will win in a fight. It does not matter which round your chosen fighter wins the fight in, or whether it is by knockout, submission, or judge’s decision. For example, if there is a fight between Christian Lee and Dagi Arslanaliev, there will be a bet on Lee to win and a bet on Arslanaliv to win.

Method of Victory

Method of victory bets gives you the opportunity to not only pick the fighter you think will win but also the way in which they will win the fight. This presents more opportunities, as fighters can win in three different ways: by judge’s decision, submission, knockout, technical knockout, or by disqualification. The method of victory bets is a six-way bet where there are three bets for either fighter. You can bet on a fighter to win via submission, via decision, or via knockout/technical knockout/disqualification. When you browse through the different bets for a fight, be sure to consider that the odds are influenced by the fighting style of either fighter. There may be one fighter who uses grapples and wrestling techniques - in which case they will usually win by submission. Another may have a more direct approach of striking hard and therefore they will win more often by knockout or technical knockout.

Double Chance Method of Victory

Double chance is a three-way bet where you are given two picks out of three, thus increasing your chance of winning at the price of slashing the odds. With a double chance method of victory, you can bet on a fighter to win the fight in one of two ways. For example, in a fight between Tang Kai and Thanh Le, you can bet on either fighter to win by decision or submission, decision or TKO/KO/DQ, or submission or TKO/KO/DQ.

Method of Victory Alternative

In the same way that you can bet on the method of victory for one of the fighters, there will also be a general method of victory bet. This is a bet on how the fight will be settled, and it does not matter which fighter wins. This could be a useful bet for fights where the fighters have a similar style and so there will be a greater chance that it ends in a KO/TKO/DQ or submission.

Winning Round and Fighter

This bet lets you pick the fighter and the round that they will win the fight in. It comes with extremely long odds, but if you win then you are guaranteed some massive returns. With this bet, it is always good to do your research and check the statistical information about both fighters.

Winning Round Alternative

Fights can be broken down into individual rounds. With this bet, you will have to pick which round the fight will be won in. In a five-round fight, there are 5 options and in a three-round fight, there are 3 different options.

Many More Bets

The betting opportunities are not limited to the bets listed above, as there are many thought-provoking bets that you can pick. There may be a Go the Distance bet, in which case you can bet on whether the fight will last the full 5 or 3 rounds. There may also be a bet on which fighter will win by submission (decision = return), in which case you can bet on a fighter to win by submission, and if they only win by TKO/DQ/KO or decision, then you will receive your money back.

Be sure to also check the combinations bets, where there are longer odds. These can combine fight winner + method of victory + winning round, or winning round + method of victory, and many more. There may be fight winner and winning round grouped, where you can pick either the first and second or third and fourth rounds.
