Introduction to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A

The Brazilian Championship A Series, or Brasileirão, is the top Brazilian football league. It is a hotbed of Brazilian talent, where all of the top local footballers play and has some extremely fierce club rivalries and classic derbies. The league comprises 20 teams, who play in a double leg robin round format against all other teams in the league, both home and away. The league operates using a promotion and relegation system, and all four teams at the bottom of the table at the end of the season are relegated to the Serie B, whilst the top four teams in the Serie B will be promoted to play in the Serie A in the following season.

The top clubs in the Brasileirão are Palmeiras, Santos, Flamengo, Corinthians, and Sao Paulo, although the league is very volatile and clubs such as Fluminese and Atletico Mineiro have also won the league in recent years. Clubs such as Cruzeiro and Gremio have also performed well in recent years but both were relegated to the Serie B in 2020 and 2021, respectively. Currently, Palmeiras has won the most championships, overtaking Santos in 2016, although clubs such as Flamengo and Corinthians are not far behind.

Campeonato Brasileiro Série A Betting

Football is the national sport of Brazil, and as such, the Brasileirão is hugely popular. Games are extremely exciting to watch, and fans can make them even more thrilling by placing bets on their favourite teams. Given the huge popularity of the league, it has an equally large market of bets available. If you are wondering where to get started with betting on the league, then the following bets are a good option.

Football Bets

Full Time Result

For each game in the Brasileirão, punters will be able to bet on which team will win the game or whether the game will finish in a draw. For example, in a game between Palmeiras and Santos, bettors will be able to find odds offered for Palmeiras to win the game, Santos to win the game, or for the game to end in a draw. The odds offered will reflect how likely a team is to win; this will depend on many things such as which team has home advantage, which team is in form, where are the two teams on the league rankings, and so on.

Handicaps

Handicaps are bets on which team will win a game, with given handicaps that will either increase their score at the end of a game or decrease it. When betting on the favourite to win, handicaps of -1.5, -2, -2.5, and more, may be applied which will lengthen the odds. This will mean the favourite has to overcome the handicap and win the game for the bet to pay out. When betting on the underdog, positive handicaps of +1.5, +2, +2.5, and more, may be given. This will make it easier for them to win but also shorten the odds of the bet.

Total Goals

This is simply a bet on how many goals will or won’t be scored during a game. There are betting lines of 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, and so on. To place a bet, a punter needs to pick a line and then bet on whether there will be over or under that number of goals scored between both teams in the game. At 2.5, the over range will require the two teams to score 3 or more goals between them. The under range will require the teams to score anything from 0 to 2 for the bet to pay out.

3-way Handicaps

These are a cross between handicaps and full time results. The underdog team may be given an advantage of +1, +2, +3, or more, and then the bettor can place their money on whether the favourite will overcome the point advantage, whether the underdog will be able to win with the advantage, or whether the game will end in a draw, in which case the game will end with the favourites leading by 1, 2, 3, or more goals.

Double Chance

With this bet, punters will be able to put their money on two of the three possible outcomes. In a game between Palmeiras and Santos, there will be a bet that requires Palmeiras to win or a draw, a bet for Santos to win or a draw, and a bet for either of the teams to win. Because this bet covers more possible outcomes, it is safer to place than a straight bet on the full time result, but it will also come with shorter odds.

Tie No Bet

Tie no bet offers punters a two way bet where they can put their money on one of the two teams in a game to win. In the case that the game ends in a draw, then the original stake is returned, meaning that bettors do not need to worry about any late equalisers, as they will not lose any money. The odds on either team to win will be slightly shorter than those offered by the full time result bet, but it comes with less risk.

Half Time

Just as there are bets for the game as a whole, there will also be a selection of bets that will relate to one of the halves, independent of what happens in the other. Punters can make full time, double chance, handicaps, or other types of bets for a chosen half.
