Who Will Win the Italian Serie A 2022/23?

The Serie A is home to the great Italian football teams and has one of the most passionate football fan bases in the world. Many great players in the game made their names whilst playing in this competition including the likes of Diego Maradona, Zinedine Zidane, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and many more.

The Serie A is the top tier of Italian league football and features some iconic teams who have also excelled in European competitions. The style of football played by Italian clubs varies but usually the defence is at a very high level and there are many great playmakers who can make wondrous passes that capture the imagination of football fans.

Serie A Title Predictions

Juventus

La Vecchia Signora, or the Old Lady, is one of the most prestigious clubs in the Serie A. Juventus are always a strong side in the league, currently they are the leading Italian club with the most scudettos having won a total of 36 league titles. Juventus set a record in 2019 when they won an unprecedented 9th successive title. In 2021, under new manager Andrea Pirlo they struggled during the season and finished in 4th place. The ongoing 2022 campaign has also been a struggle for the Italian side, but now that they are reunited with their record winning manager Massimiliano Allegri, the future of the club looks very promising.

AC Milan

This Milanese team is one that has had a turbulent past ten years, but when they hit top form they are extremely difficult to beat. In the ongoing 2022 season they are currently top of the league, and look like strong favourites to win. Prior to this season, the last time AC Milan won a Serie A title was in 2011, with the current Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri. Allegri led AC Milan to the title and held them in the top 3 during his brief stint at the club. After many disappointing seasons, the Milanese side have finally reached their goal of being title contenders under their current manager Stefano Pioli.

Inter Milan

Inter Milan are also based in Milan, and the two teams share a stadium, the San Siro. In recent years Inter has overtaken AC Milan to become the most dangerous Milanese club. They won 5 back to back titles from 2006-2010, and won most recently in 2021. The club was forced to sell many players from their star studded line-up from the 2021 season due to financial woes caused by the covid-19 pandemic. However, Inter has remained a fierce force in the Serie A. They are certainly title contenders and have a versatile squad, led by manager Simone Inzaghi.

Serie A Top Four Predictions

Napoli

Napoli are a side that has not won the Italian Serie A for over 30 years, though they are a hugely competitive team that are a strong bet for a top four finish. In the last 10 years they finished a total of 7 times inside the top four. Gli Azzurri, or the blues as they are known, have many young players that show a lot of promise for the future, and one of their key goals each season is to land in the top four and play in the Champions League, where they have put in some great performances. Their manager, Luciano Spalletti, has managed many top Italian teams and has plenty of experience in the league and Napoli can only benefit from having such an experienced manager.

Atalanta

Ten years ago Atalanta would have no place in this list, as they had just achieved promotion to the Serie A. They garnered  international attention in the 2020 season when they advanced past the Champions League group stage and qualified for the last 16 in their debut Champions League season. The team were narrowly beaten by PSG, but they put in such a performance that they immediately became the favourite underdogs. Their run of good form started in the previous season of 2019, when they finished 3rd in the Serie A. The team placed third in two consecutive seasons, showing that they were not a one season wonder. Under manager Gian Piero Gasperini, this young Italian side are still the underdogs but have the quality to finish in the top four.

Roma

Roma are one of the most iconic Italian teams, probably because of the huge international popularity of their key player in the 90s through to the mid-2010s, Francesco Totti. They were easily a top four team in the years that the legendary player graced their field but since his retirement in 2017 they have struggled for form. Despite this, the Italian side managed to secure Jose Mourinho to be their head coach. With a mixture of young homebred talents and international football stars they show a lot of promise to climb back up the ranks in the Serie A.

Lazio

Lazio are another Italian club from Rome, and they play some hugely exciting football. It is difficult to predict whether the club is a top four team or whether they fall just outside the top four, as they have finished everywhere from the 8th place to the 3rd place in the past 10 years. Lazio have a relatively older team than the other teams on this list, which may prove damaging for the Italian side in upcoming years. However, they have a highly experienced manager in Maurizio Sarri, who has coached other Italian clubs such as Napoli, Juventus and Empoli. Lazio play very intensely and with the manager’s excellent tactics, they will pose a threat in the upcoming seasons.
