Champions League 2022-23 Predictions

The Champions League is an annual tournament between the top teams in Europe, and it is watched by many fans across the world. It is the most prestigious of the international European football competitions at club level. Many teams have held the illustrious trophy, such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Manchester United and many more.

The competition is played in a group stage at first, with the runners up and winners of the groups proceeding to a knockout phase, where the teams play in two legs, both home and away, until the two remaining teams reach the finals.

It is every European football fans’ dream to see their team win the Champions League. It is not an easy competition to win, as the teams will also be playing in their domestic leagues throughout the competition, but the top teams are able to assert their dominance in both competitions.

Champions League Winners Predictions

Predicting which team will win the Champions League is never easy. Every team that enters is hungry to win and a lot depends on which teams they will be drawn against. Sometimes teams get “easier draws” meaning that in the knockout phases, such as the last 16 or quarter finals, they may be paired with lower ranking sides, and they may be able to avoid playing bigger teams until the semi-finals or even the finals.

With that in mind, here are some of the top predictions for which teams are tipped to become Champions League winners in 2022/23.

English Teams

Manchester City

Manchester City narrowly missed out on a first Champions League title in 2021. They played Chelsea in the finals, who had already won the competition once, and they lost in a tight match to the London based team. In the 2021-22 competition, Manchester City suffered a crushing defeat in against Real Madrid in the semi-finals. As such, they are likely to be more determined than ever before to lift the trophy next season.

Liverpool

Liverpool are the most successful English team in the Champions League and they have a special affinity for the competition. With a side that has a mixture of younger and older players, the current team have tasted Champions League glory, winning the competition in 2019. Liverpool are a strong side that no team enjoys facing in the Champions League due to their high tempo in matches and their ability to press opponents into making mistakes. Liverpool has a strong chance of winning a Champions League in the next few years.

Chelsea

Chelsea surprised everyone when they beat Manchester City in the Champions League final in 2021. The team is by no means weaker, although they do sometimes have problems with consistency. Despite this, Chelsea have a good history in the Champions League, performing well against other top teams and managing to beat weaker sides to advance through the knockout stages.

Spanish Teams

Barcelona

Barcelona last won the Champions League in 2015, when they beat Juventus in the final. Since then, Barcelona have had problems with an ageing squad and will have felt the departure of Lionel Messi in 2022. In 2022, Barcelona failed to pass the group stage, falling into the Europa League. To make the situation worse, they were knocked out by Eintracht Frankfurt, meaning that they had a year to forget in European football. Despite this, the team is slowly rebuilding and by the time the next Champions League starts, Barcelona will look to come back and re-establish their presence in the tournament.

Real Madrid

Madrid is the leading club with the most Champions League wins. Their back to back Champions League wins from 2015-2018 was something of a fairy-tale for the club. Though they had problems when Cristiano Ronaldo left in 2018, the team did not take long before they filled their side with talented youthful players. Real Madrid has a special relationship with the Champions League and they are almost always favourites amongst punters before the tournament starts.

Italian Teams

Juventus

Juventus probably has the most tragic history in the Champions League. They came runners up a record 7 times, and when they did finally win their first title in 1985, it was overshadowed by a horrible tragedy in which fans were killed in a stadium riot. In recent years, Juventus has performed well in the Champions League and they definitely have the right players and talent to make it all the way.

Inter Milan

Inter won the Champions League most recently in 2010, but despite the long time between then and now, the team is one of the most dangerous Italian teams in the competition. There are some years when Inter puts in some truly amazing performances, and with their team they have a chance at making some major upsets in the competition.

German Teams

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich is the most successful German team in the competition. They have won the competition 6 times and come runners up 5 times. They won most recently in 2020, when they beat Paris Saint-Germain in a highly thrilling final. Despite their huge reputation, Bayern can sometimes fall victim to smaller clubs, as Villarreal knocked them out in the quarterfinals in the 2022 Champions League.

French Teams

Paris Saint-Germain

PSG is the most prominent of the French teams in the Champions League nowadays. With huge financial backing and some of the biggest footballing talents in the world, it is surprising they have not yet won the competition. Despite their lack of any European glory, they are still title contenders in the Champions League and look strong favourites to win the competition in the coming years.
