What is Blackjack Switch?

Blackjack Switch is one of the most popular and exciting blackjack variants. The game is played with six decks of cards and it allows players to swap the top card between two hands. In this guide, we cover the rules of the game and some basic strategies to help you win.

How to Play Blackjack Switch

One of the best things about Blackjack Switch is that it is easy to learn the rules. The aim of the game is to get as close to 21 as possible without going bust (exceeding 21). If you have a stronger hand than the dealer, you win the round. As in all blackjack games, the numbered cards keep their face value, the picture cards (Jack, Queen, King) are all worth 10 whilst Ace can be either 1 or 11. To form a Blackjack (the strongest hand), players must have an Ace and 10-value card.

After you have set your stake on both hands, the round starts when you click on the ‘Deal’ button. At this point, the dealer deals you two face-up cards to both hands and takes a face-up and face-down card themselves. If the dealer is showing an Ace, you can choose to place an Insurance bet. This costs half of your stake and pays 2:1, if the Dealer has Blackjack.

As mentioned above, in Blackjack Switch, it is possible to change the top two cards from your two hands. For example, if you are dealt a K and a 4 to one hand, and a 7 and A to the other, you can switch the two top cards to form Blackjack and 11. Whether you choose to switch the top cards or not is entirely up to you. Either way, you will have the following options after receiving your cards.

  • Stand – you do not want to add any more cards to your hand
  • Hit – you add another card to your hand. There is no limit on how many times you can hit but you should be cautious about going bust.
  • Double – you add a single card to your hand, doubling your bet in the process.
  • Split – if you have received pairs, you can choose to split them and play them as separate hands. In doing so, you are doubling your bet. If you split Aces, you can only receive one more card. It is also possible to Double after splitting.

One important thing to mention about Blackjack Switch is that the dealer must always hit on a soft 17 and stand on a hard 17. A soft 17 is a hand that has an Ace in it. To balance out the rules, the dealer does not bust on 22. Instead, your hand is returned as a push, unless you have Blackjack.

Blackjack Switch Payouts

Blackjack Switch has an incredibly high RTP of 99.87%. All winning hands payout at 1:1. Players can also win with the Ten Card Charlie rule (building a hand of ten cards without busting), unless the dealer has Blackjack.

A Basic Strategy for Blackjack Switch

Blackjack Switch gives players the chance to switch the top cards on both of their hands. In some scenarios, switching is rather obvious. However, that is not always the case. To help the player decide whether it would be a good idea to switch or not, it is important to look at the dealer’s face-up card. A dealer’s hand is said to be strong or weak depending upon the face up card:

  • Strong: 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K, A
  • Weak: 3, 4, 5, 6
  • Deuce: 2

To successfully predict the outcome of the dealer’s hand, you must always assume that their face-down card is a 10. That way, you can estimate the strength of the dealer’s hand based on their face-up card.

Furthermore, it is also important to know the strength of your own hands. To do this, you should categorize your own hand as follows:

  • Winner – In this scenario, your hand is stronger than the dealer’s face-up card. An example of this is if you have a hand total of 9 and the dealer is revealing a 6.
  • Loser – In this scenario, your hand is weaker than the dealer’s face-up card. If you have a total of 19 and the dealer is revealing a Queen, the hand is considered as a Loser.
  • Push – In this instance, your hand and the dealer’s face-up card are equal. An example of this is a player total of 18 and the dealer revealing an 8.
  • Chance – In this case, your hand is weak but so is the dealer’s face-up card. If you have a soft or hard hand with a total of 3 to 7 or 12 to 17 this could be considered as a Chance hand if the dealer’s face-up card is 2 to 6.

In Blackjack Switch, swapping the two top cards is not always the best option. Many players forget that they are playing two hands against the dealer. That is why you should try to form the best possible scenario for both of your hands, not only one. Below, we have included the best to worst combinations that can be created in Blackjack Switch:

  • Winner/Winner
  • Winner/Push
  • Winner/Chance
  • Winner/Loser
  • Push/Push
  • Push/Loser
  • Chance/Chance
  • Chance/Loser
  • Loser/Loser

With that in mind, you should always first consider the hand that you are dealt and the hand that you can switch to before taking this decision. Essentially, you want to have a Winner/Winner scenario, but as you can see above, a Winner/Loser instance is better than a Push/Push round.

To Conclude

Blackjack Switch is incredibly simple to play but it can take a little time to become fully used to the strategy. However, with just a little work, the game can provide you with hours of fun and the chanc of great winnings.
