Understanding Advanced NBA Betting Markets

Introduction to the NBA

The NBA is arguably the most prestigious basketball league in the world. There are many different phases of a season to look forward to, from the NBA drafts to the Preseason, Regular Season, All Star Game and finally the playoffs, that end with the NBA Finals. The drafts and various phases of each season provide fans with year round action, and most importantly, plenty of chances to place bets.

The NBA is home to teams that are known around the world. The two most successful teams historically are the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtic. They are followed by a multitude of title contending teams that are filled with exceptional players and have won the championship multiple times, such as the Golden State Warriors, Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons and Miami Heat.

In recent years, some up and coming teams have won the title, such as the Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors. In fact, of the 30 franchises that play in the league, only 6 have never appeared in the NBA Finals, which shows just how open the competition can be. Some truly great basketball players made their name in the NBA, including Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O' Neal, Larry Bird, and more recently Le Bron James.

NBA Advanced Betting

There are an amazing number of NBA betting markets available on ever game. There are numerous standard bets that can be found, but for those who want to try their hand at some more challenging bets, there are the advanced types of bets. These are not necessarily complicated, but they relate to more specific details than the standard bets. These bets can be extremely profitable for those who have watched a lot of NBA, and they often have extremely long odds, which only adds to their appeal.

Advanced Basketball Bets

Outrights

There are many different types of outright NBA bets that will be made available before the start of the season. These are basically bets that relate to events that will be resolved at the end of the regular season or the postseason. There will be bets offered such as which team will win the Eastern/Western Conference, will a certain team make the playoffs, and which team will win the NBA Finals. Odds will be offered for each team, reflecting the likelihood that they will win the conference, make the playoffs or become the new NBA champions.

There also may be player related outrights offered such as which player will be named regular season MVP, or which player will be first choice in the NBA drafts, offering bettors the chance to back their favourite players.

Game Props

Advanced bets on individual games can relate to many different things such as how a team may win, when and how many points will be scored during a game, and more.

There may be bets that will require bettors to predict the results of both the first and second half, whether a team will win all four quarters, which team will win more quarters, and more.

Point related advanced bets may require bettors to predict whether there will be an even or odd number of points scored during a game, which quarter or half will be the highest scoring in the game, which team will reach X points first, amongst other bets.

There may even be bets on details such as which team will make more fouls, which team will open the scoring, total 3 point field goals, and total free throws.

Player Props

It is also possible to bet on individual player performances. For instance, you can normally bet on how many points a player may score, when they may score, how the points will be scored, and so on.

Some examples of these bets are a player to score over/under 8.5 points during a game, will a player score a field goal in the game, will they score in the first quarter, and similar variations of these bets.

Live Bets

These bets will only be made available once a game begins. Moneylines, point handicaps, and point totals will all be offered with live odds. There will also be a handful of more advanced bets such as game and player props, which will be made available at certain points in a game. These props will relate to the ongoing half or quarter, or they may relate to events that may be resolved in the more immediate future, such as which team will make the next foul, will either team score from a free throw in the ongoing half, will a certain player score during the ongoing quarter, and more.

There are many reasons why live bets are popular. Some punters may want to watch the first few minutes of a game because it can indicate how a team may play in that game, whilst others may enjoy watching the game and waiting for a fantastic opportunity with generous odds to occur.
