Getting Started Betting on Italian Serie A Betting

There is no denying that when it comes to European football and world football at large, the impact of Italian football cannot be overlooked. After many years of producing great players and teams that dominated international competitions, one can only admire the quality of football and passion for the sport that Italians display, and there is no greater stage where that is showcased than the Italian Serie A.

The Italian Serie A is the top-flight men's professional football league in Italy. It is a 20-team league with the 3 bottom teams at the end of a season relegated to a lower league and three lower league promoted into the elite Italian Serie A. With that much fan following, it should not come as a surprise to know that the Italian Serie A is ideal for sports betting.

Betting on Italy’s Serie A

You will find that there are often hundreds of betting markets available for a single Serie A match and this can be a bit daunting. Here we will explain the most popular markets so that you can get started.

Outright Bets

An outright bet is one that isn’t resolved until the end of the season. When it comes to Serie A, the most popular outright bet is a bet on a team to win the title, such as Roma. You can place the bet before the season starts or during the season, however, the best odds can normally be found ahead of time.

Often there are other outright bets available, such as bets on which teams will be relegated or on which player will be the league’s top goal scorer.

Match Result

This is the simplest bet you can place on an individual match. There are only three options, you can bet on either of the teams to win or you can bet on a draw.

For example, if Atalanta and Inter Milan are playing, you could bet on Atalanta to win, Inter Milan to win, or for the teams to draw.

Double Chance

If you want to reduce the risk of betting slightly, then the Double Chance bet is an excellent option as it covers two or the three possible outcomes. For example, in a game between Fiorentina and Juventus, you could place a bet that Fiorentina or Juventus will win, that Fiorentina will win or it will be a draw, or that Juventus will win or it will be a draw.

Total Goals

As the name suggests, this is a bet on the total number of goals that will be scored in a match. A betting line is supplied and you bet either over or under that line. For example, in a match between Empoli and Lazio you could bet on there being over/under 2.5 goal. You bet over if you think there will be 3 or more goals and under if you think there will be 2 or less.

Goal Handicap

If you want to bet on the favourites to win but you would like to do so with longer odds, then a goal handicap bet is the solution. It assigns the favourites a goal deficit that they need to overcome. For example, if Cremonese and Lecce were playing and Cremonese were the favourites, you could bet on them to win with a -1.5 goal handicap. This means that your bet wins if Cremonese wins the game by at least 2 goals. You could also bet on Lecce to win with a +1.5 goal handicap, which means the bet wins if Lecce win the game or don’t lose by more than a single goal.

Half-Time/Full-Time

This market requires you to predict the state of play at both halftime and full time. For example, if Udinese were playing Spezia, you could bet on Udinese to be ahead at halftime and Spezia to win the game, for Spezia to be ahead at halftime and for them to win, for it to be a draw at halftime and for Udinese to win, or any other combination.

Player & Game Props

Prop bets are bets on specific things happening in a game. For example, you could bet on AC Milan’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic to score a goal or commit a foul, you could bet on how many corners there will be, you could bet on if there will be a penalty during the game, and so on.

Draw no Bet

This is another way of reducing the risk of betting on a team to win. For example, if Juventus are playing Roma and you bet on Roma to win, you will win the bet if they win, you will lose the bet if they lose, and if the game ends in a draw, your money is refunded.

Live Bets

Live bets are bets placed while the match is being played. You will find most of the markets explained above and the odds will update in real time to reflect the action. You can also bet on the next thing, such as Ciro Immobile to score the next goal.
