Formula 1 Sao Paulo Grand Prix Betting Guide

Sao Paulo Grand Prix

The Brazilian Grand Prix, or Sao Paulo Grand Prix is held in the Autódromo José Carlos Pace in São Paulo. Motor racing started in Brazil on the Gavea street circuit in Rio de Janeiro in 1934. Due to the huge popularity, an autodrome was built in Sao Paulo in 1936, to allow for larger events. The event stayed in Sao Paulo until 1978, when it moved to Jacarepagua in Rio de Janeiro. In 1990, the Brazilian Grand Prix moved back to Rio de Janeiro. Sao Paulo native Ayrton Senna's success had a big influence in the decision to renovate the original circuit in Interlagos, São Paulo.

The Brazilian Grand Prix has been won the most times by Alain Prost. He won it six times, in 1982, 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1990, in the first circuit back in Sao Paulo. Argentinian Carlos Reutemann and Michael Schumacher are the second most successful drivers with 4 wins. Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton have both won 3 times, and a number of drivers have won it twice, including Brazilian drivers such as Emerson Fittipaldi, Nelson Piquet, Ayrton Senna and Felipe Massa.

How to Bet on the Sao Paulo Grand Prix

Formula 1 fans may be surprised by how many betting options there are for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. When betting, there are safer options that come with lower odds, and there are the more specific bets that can bring colossal odds.

Race Winner

A bet can be put on any of the drivers to win the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. All the drivers will have odds that are calculated by the sportsbook based on the drivers’ form, where they are in the world championship standings, their previous history at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix and many more factors.

Podium Finish

Bets can be placed on a driver to finish in either 1st, 2nd or 3rd place. These bets provide some protection against things such as a favourite making a mistake or receiving a time penalty and is forced to finish the race in second or third place. While it does not offer the same long odds as the race winner bets, it is definitely a safer option to choose.

Correct Finishers

Punters can bet on which two drivers will finish the race first, in the correct order. In years when the Formula 1 world championship has one or two title contenders, this may seem like a bet on which driver will win between the two. Even if this is the case, the odds are very high, and fans will know that in races anything can happen.

There may also be bets for which drivers will finish in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, in the correct order. This bet requires more research, because if just one driver fails to finish in the right place, the bet does not pay. However, the odds are massive, making it an interesting bet for any punter who feels like taking a chance.

Which Team Will Win

Fans of Formula 1 will have favourite drivers, but usually they will also have car preferences. Car manufacturers such as Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes, Red Bull and Renault have featured quite prominently in the Formula 1 world championships over the years. Each team usually has two drivers and this bet covers both of them. As long as the chosen team wins, e.g. Mercedes, then the bet will also win.

Fastest Lap

Betting on which driver will achieve the fastest lap is a bet that does not really have any connection to which driver will win the race. This bet can be researched, by looking at the statistics of each driver in the Sao Paulo Grand Prix and by looking at factors such as weather conditions, which cars have the best infrastructure to go the fastest on the circuit and so on.

Most fans however, will use this bet as a fun side bet that they can try out with a small amount of money. The odds that pay in this bet can be massive, which can make it highly appealing to fans.

Which Country Will Win

Bets can be placed on the nationality of the winning driver. Usually drivers who are racing in their hometown have an advantage, as they may know the circuits better than the other contestants. The Sao Paulo Grand Prix has been won the most by French driver Alain Prost with 6 wins, but there are four Brazilians who have won 2 times here, Emerson Fittipaldi, Nelson Piquet, Felipe Massa and the late Ayrton Senna.

Live Bets

Formula 1 betting can also be done live, meaning that fans who are watching the races can place quick bets on who they think will win. The bets use live odds that constantly update whilst the drivers race.

Live bets can be great fun, but they can also provide the more keen punters with a lot of potentially profitable options. When watching races live, punters can also track the statistics of each race, such as the last time one of the drivers made a pit stop, the time of each lap from the different drivers, the track conditions and more. All of these bits of information can be used by punters who have a good knowledge of Formula 1 to place winning bets.
