Darren Till Still Hopes to Fight Sean Strickland

The English MMA fighter Darren Till, who competes in the middleweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, has set his sights on an up and coming middleweight contender.

Till hasn’t been in the cage since his submission loss to Derek Brunson in September last year, which was his fourth loss in his past five outings. The fight ended in round three when he lost via rea-naked choke submission. Last November, Till, whose record is 18-4-1 MMA, 6-4-1 UFC, revealed that he was given the chance to fight with Sean Strickland, but the event never took place.

However, despite having a vastly different track record to Strickland, whose is currently 25-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC, Till thinks that it would still be an entertaining fight.

In a recent interview, Till revealed that he would still like the fight to take place. He acknowledged that Strickland is on a solid win streak and he is coming off a loss, but believes it would still be a worthy matchup. While he said that he doesn’t know if the fight could happen, he made it clear that it is an opportunity he would relish.

Most recently, Strickland secured his sixth consecutive win when he defeated Jack Hermansson in the main event of UFC Fight Night 200. The event took place earlier this month and Strickland won by split decision (49-46, 47-48, 49-46) to extend his winning streak to six.

While Till would like the opportunity to fight Stickland, he is not the only person he is interested in taking on. Till said that he would also be willing to fight Hermansoon (22-7 MMA, 9-5 UFC) or numerous other fighters to start the new UFC deal that he recently signed.

Thanks to the new deal, which was arranged by his coach, Till can be sure of several more fights in the near future, and there is likely to be continued speculation about his potential opponents. However, ten weeks before his fight with Burnson, Till tore his ACL. He will not be on the UFC London card next month and realistically, Till expects to be out of action until the summer.

He stressed his need to return to full health, both physical and mental, before he returns to fighting. However, he expects to fight at least twice more this year, whether it be in the UK, Europe, America or anywhere else.

Following a troubled youth, at the age of 20 Till was advised by his coach Colin Heron to move to Brazil where he could train with a former Team Kaobon coach to avoid troubles back at home. He then joined the Astra Fight Team in Balneário Camboriú, despite not knowing any Portuguese and with minimal knowledge of grappling. Till then remained in Brazil for three and a half years, fathering a child with his girlfriend, before returning to England and joining Heron once again.
