Call of Duty Betting Guide

What are COD tournaments?

Call of Duty, or CoD, is a first person shooter game that was created in 2003. Since the first instalment, there have been dozens of games that have been released, with each game becoming progressively more detailed and higher in quality. The game was developed to target console players as well as PC players, this move gave it huge popularity and success. There have been online games and lobbies for players since the mid-2000s, allowing players to play in squads with and against random players from around the world.

This form of playing has given gamers hours of fun with each game, as they can for many hours exploring many different maps, using a number of game variants. The most popular online variants are five on five matches that use formats such as Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Search and Destroy and Hardpoint.

Team Deathmatch, or TDM, is precisely what it sounds like, a match in which teams have to reach a certain amount of kills, or have more kills than the opponent when the time runs out.

Capture the Flag, or CTF, is a game type where points are awarded if players can bring the opposing team's flag back to the team's base. They also have a flag of their own in their base and they have to defend it against the opposing team, who will try to do the same.

Search and Destroy, or S&D, SnD, is a variant where there will be a defending team who have to defend a bomb site, and an offending team that will have to detonate bombs at the bomb site.

Hardpoint is one of the later additions to the game’s variants. Debuting in 2012 with the CoD Black Ops II game, the objective of this game is for teams to secure "hardpoints" on maps and repel any incoming enemies. Points are gained by teams for staying in the hardpoints, which change positions intermittently during the course of a game.

Control is a game mode debuted in 2019, with CoD Black Ops: Cold War. It is a combination of the Hardpoint and SnD game variants. Here one team will try to defend two points on a map against the other team that tries to secure them.

The latest addition to online multiplayer game variants is the warzone, which debuted with 2021’s CoD Warzone. This mode follows the Fortnite or PUBG format, in which players play either solo, in doubles or groups of four. The player or teams will fly over a map and can drop anywhere in the map, finding resources on the ground and with one life they have to kill the other players on the map. There is a storm, which moves in on areas of the map, getting progressively smaller after time. Any player outside of the safe zone loses health rapidly until they die.

How to Bet on CoD

There are many exciting tournaments to watch, but the biggest one is the CoD League, or CDL. This tournament features 12 teams that do battle on the CoD Vanguard Platform, with a huge prize pool of $5 million. There is also the World Series of Warzone, the most popular tournaments using the Warzone variant. There are a number of bets that punters can place on each game.

Outrights

Outrights can be placed on players or teams to win the competition outright. For punters who do their research, these bets are a fantastic option because they usually have huge odds before the competition starts.

Live Bets

Live bets can be placed during the course of a game. This is a great option because it can be incredibly difficult to predict how players or teams will perform. There are constantly new players coming onto the scene, so it may be worth watching them play for a short while before determining if they have what it takes to win.

To Win

The most straightforward bet is on which player or team will win a match. These are two way bets, where a punter can put money on either of the players or teams, with odds reflecting their likelihood to win.

By Round

Most variants can be split into rounds (excluding warzone). Bets can be placed on the winners of a specific round, which are great for fans who want to place bets that pay out quicker.

By Map

There are some teams or players that perform better on certain maps, this is why betting by map can be a smart option for bettors. In most variants (excluding warzone), games may be played over different maps, and this can give a huge advantage to some teams or players, and prove a huge challenge for other teams or players.

Handicap Bets

Handicaps can be set on a player or team, this will change the odds and change the risk level. Positive handicaps will reduce the odds but make the bets safer, whereas negative handicaps will make the bet more risky but drastically lengthen the odds.

Many More Bets

There are many more betting markets that create excitement out of smaller aspects in each game. These can be a combination of some of the previous bets, such as a player to lose the first round and then win the game, or a player to win a map with a handicap of -2.5 rounds.

These also include fun proposition bets, such as first to achieve 10 headshot kills, most pistol kills and more. These bets can add tremendous excitement to each game, making watching the competition even more thrilling.
