The Margaret River Pro is a surfing event that is held at the Margaret River in Western Australia. The event was created in 1985, and became a fan favourite amongst the Australian surfers as the location makes it a tough place to compete, forcing athletes to meet the challenges. The Margaret River area has many surf breaks, stretching along 130 km of coastline. The geographical location is quite unique as there is a river that meanders around the back of the coastline area into the mainland. The tides can be highly volatile, with the Cowaramup Bombora big wave surf break that is 2 km offshore and produces some of the biggest waves in Australia.

The Margaret River Pro tournament features 36 surfers, who are seeded into 12 heats comprising 3 surfers. This is called the seeding round, and surfers will have to compete against the other surfers in their respective heats. The surfers who finish in first and second in the heats advance to the round of 32, whilst the losers proceed to the elimination round. In the elimination round, the 12 surfers who came bottom of their heats are drawn into 4 heats comprising 3 surfers each. The winners and runners up of the elimination round heats will proceed to the round of 32.

In the following rounds, the surfers compete in one on one heats, where the winner advances to the following round. There are 16 heats in the round of 32, and the 16 winners proceed to the round of 16. In the round of 16, the 8 winners of the 8 heats proceed to the quarterfinals. The quarterfinals comprises 4 heats, and the winners go to the semifinals. The 2 winners of the 2 heats in the semifinals proceed to the finals, where the winner becomes the new champion of the Margaret River Pro event.

How to Bet on the Boost Mobile Margaret River Pro

Surfing events are highly entertaining to watch, as each athlete is forced to try and show off their best tricks and use their skills to the best of their abilities. There are many surfing channels and organisations that stream the events as they happen, allowing the surfing fanbase to follow the events as they unfold. What can make these events more fun is placing some bets on favourite or up and coming surfers.

As surfing is still not a globally popular event, the betting markets for surfing events are not as extensive as many other sports, but this does not mean that surfing fans should worry. There is still a variety of betting options that can interest surfing fans.

When it comes to betting, it may seem very difficult at first to make any predictions about the upcoming events. There are a few ways for punters to research their bets, including weather conditions such as wind, tide, humidity and temperature that may affect the competition. Top athletes will know how to deal with variable conditions and they will still be able to perform at a high level, but sometimes this is not enough.

Outright Winner

Bets can be placed on which surfer will win the competition, these can be placed before the competition starts, or after the first few rounds have played. The offered odds are longest before the competition begins.

Once the competition has started, the outright winner may be easier to single out, as spectators can see which surfers have come into the competition with more confidence, or which are better rested than the others. Needless to say, if the bet is placed later in the competition, for example in the elimination rounds, then the odds will be lower but the bets will have a much better chance of winning.

Reach Elimination Round or Better

Bets do not only need to be placed on which surfer will win the competition. There are bets on how far surfers will go in the competition, which can be a good alternative for fans who want to back their favourite competitor, but do not necessarily think he or she will reach the finals. The odds will always be higher for a surfer to go all the way to the finals, but there are a number of surfers who have the potential to go all the way.

Head to Head

When it comes to the top surfers, there are bets which single these athletes out. In head to head bets, punters can place a bet between two surfers, on which will go further in the tournament. These bets are highly attractive propositions for surf fans who will recognise the rivalries between the top players, or know when two players have the potential to make it to the finals. These bets can be tense, but they are extremely fun.

Live Bets

For some events, there may be an option to make live bets. Live bets are a great opportunity for punters to analyse the surfers and check the weather conditions of the match. These can be hugely important when placing bets and can help keen punters make bets with a high chance of winning.
