Betting on the Rio World Skate Street World Championships

The Rio World Skate Street World Championships are being held from 2 to 9 October 2022. The competition is considered to be one of the most important competitions in the season, and will feature the world’s best street skateboards all trying to take home a gold medal. This year’s competition will take on extra importance, as it is the first qualifying stage for the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. The Rio World Skate Park World Championships are being held right after the Skate Street edition.

The street skateboarding World Championships were first held in 2010, and until 2018, they were exclusively held in the United States. The first four editions of the completion were all held in Newark, New Jersey. The 2018 edition was held in Rio de Janerio, with Sao Paulo holding the 2019 edition.

Nyjah Huston holds the record for the most gold medals in the men’s competition, winning 6 gold medals, the last of which came in the 2019 edition. On top of his 6 gold medals, Huston has 5 silver medals from this event. The 2021 men's edition was won by American Jagger Eaton, with Brazilian Lucas Rabelo coming second and Portuguese skater Gustavo Ribeiro coming third. The first women's edition wasn't held until 2015, with the earlier editions dominated with a battle between Brazilian Leticia Bufoni who won in 2015, and Lacey Baker who won in 2016 and 2017. Brazilian skater Pamela Rosa won the 2021 edition, with fellow Brazilian Rayssa Leal coming second and Japanese skater Momiji Nishiya coming third.

To Win

To win bets are one of, if not the, simplest form of sports betting. Betting on the Rio World Skate Street World Championships 2022 are no exception. In this form of sports betting, you are quite simply placing a bet on someone to win the competition. For example, in the 2021 men’s edition if you placed a to win bet on Jagger Eaton, your bet would have won, as Eaton won the competition. If you placed a to win bet on any other male skater on the 2021 men’s edition then the bet would have lost.

To Finish in the Top Three

As part of the World Skate Street World Championships, competitors who finish first are awarded a gold medal. Those who come second get a silver medal, and those who come third get a bronze medal. Together this is known as the top three.

In skateboarding, you can place a bet on a skater to finish in the top three. This form of betting is useful if you think a skater is on good enough form to finish in the top three, but you think it is unlikely that they will win the competition. Alternatively, you may choose this bet because you think a skater has a very good chance of finishing in the top three.

As an example, between 2010 and 2020 American skater Nyjah Huston finished in the top three in every edition of the competition. If you placed a to finish in the top three bet on Huston on any year between 2010 and 2020 your bet would have won. During this same time, if you would have bet on Huston winning the 2020 edition, you would have lost your bet because he finished second. This shows that bets placed on a skater finishing in the top three can sometimes be a safer bet, but your betting returns are likely to be smaller.
