Betting on the Novo Basquete Brasil

Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB) is the country’s leading men’s basketball league. It is organised by the Liga Nacional de Basquete (LNB) and managed by the Brazilian basketball associations, which were founders of the LNB.

In the first phase of the season, the teams play against each other on a home and away basis. Then the top eight teams progress to the playoffs where the top team plays against the one in eighth place, the second from the top plays the seventh team, and so on. Each playoff series is a best-of-five, apart from the championship final, which is a single game. Finally, the best teams in the league qualify for the South American top-tier level FIBA Americas League and the South American second-tier level FIBA South American League.

The NBB works with a promotion and relegation system with the Brazilian second-tier level league, the Liga Ouro de Basquete (LOB). The worst performing teams each season are relegated to the LOB and the best from the LOB move up to the NBB.

The NBB is a very young league, its first season was in 2009. However, the league very quickly grew in popularity and has attracted a number of players from countries such as Argentina and the US.

Betting on the NBB

If you want to bet on your favourite teams in the NBB, then you will have plenty of options. It is possible to bet on each game and on the league as a whole. This way, you can have some betting action on the entire season.

EuroLeague Outrights

These are the bets that relate to the entire league. For instance, you could bet on Brasilia or Glamengo to be crowned champions. You may also be able to bet on which player will be named the MVP and who will be Coach of the Year.

Game Winner

This is a simple bet on which team will win a game, e.g. Franca or Bauru. As long as you pick the right team, then you will win your bet.

Game Handicap

If a team is favourite to win a game, e.g. Flamengo is favourite to defeat Sao Jose, then the odds may not be very big. This type of bet offers larger odds as it gives the favourite a points handicap that they need to overcome. For example,

Flamengo -3.5 Sao Jose +3.5

If you were to bet on Flamengo, you need them to win the game by at least 4 points for you to win the bet. If you were to bet on Sao Jos, then you would win the bet if they win the game or lose by no more than 3 points.

Points Total

This is simply a bet on the total number of points that will be scored by both teams in a game. The bet gives you a number and you bet on whether there will be more or less points than that number scored. Often it is called an over/under bet. For example, in a game between Paulistano and Franca, you could bet on whether there will be more than 134.5 points scored.

In addition to betting on the total number of points scored in a game, you can also bet on the number of points scored by each team.

Game Winning Margin

This is a bet on how many points a team will win by. For example, you could bet on Flamengo to beat Bauro by 1-2 points, 3-6 points, 7-9 points, 10-13 points, and so on.

First Half/Full Time

This is an interesting bet. It requires you to predict which team will be leading at halftime and which team will win the game. As such there are six possible options. For example, you could bet on Bauro to be leading at halftime and Flamengo to win, or for Bauro to lead at halftime and then win, or for Flamengo to lead at halftime and Bauro to win, and so on.

Player Proposition Bets

These are bets on how individual players from each team will perform. You can usually bet on the number of points, rebounds and assists a player will manage. These bets work using the over/under principle explained above. For example, you could bet on Vítor Luiz Faverani Tatsch scoring more or less than 9.5 points.

Game Proposition Bets

These are the other bets that relate to the game but not to who will win. For instance, you can bet on which team will be the first to reach a certain number of points. You can bet on how many 3-point shots there will be in a game, which team will be the last to score, and so on.
