Betting on the Monaco Grand Prix

Monaco Grand Prix

The Monaco Grand Prix is raced on the Circuit de Monaco, a street circuit that takes drivers through the bending narrow streets of Monte Carlo and La Condamine and then turning around the harbour of the principality of Monaco. The racetrack is also called the Monte Carlo, because most of it is in the Monte Carlo neighbourhood of Monaco. The Grand Prix itself has been run since 1929, and it has become famous not only for its unique track but also for being one of the most glamorous and prestigious Grand Prixes in the world. After the Formula One World Championship was founded in 1950, the Monaco Grand Prix became one of the races in the schedule in 1955, and has remained part of the Formula One World Championships ever since.

Many of the biggest names in Formula 1 history have won the Monaco Grand Prix, including Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg, Michael Schumacher and the late Ayrton Senna, amongst many more. Ayrton Senna currently holds the record for the most wins at the Monegasque racing track, with six wins in 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993.

Betting on the Monaco Grand Prix

Race Winner

Punters can pick one of the drivers competing in the Monaco Grand Prix to win the race. Odds can be found on every single driver in the race and these will reflect how likely the drivers are to win the race. Because there are many contestants, the odds will always be relatively long, even for those drivers who are tipped to win.

Podium Finish

Punters may choose to bet on a driver to make a podium finish instead of winning the race. This bet is slightly safer as it will only require that driver to finish anywhere in the top three, but in turn it will have lower odds than the race winner bets. Punters have the option to make multiple podium finishes without the bets contradicting each other. In a race where Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen are heavily favoured to win, it may be a better option to place two bets on both of them to make podium finishes rather than betting on one to win over the other.

Point Finish

This bet is on a driver, or multiple drivers, to finish in the top ten. It comes with far shorter that betting on a podium finish, but the bet is far less risky.

Correct Finishers

Punters who want to try out bets with far longer odds can try out some of the different finishers betting options. These can include bets such as which two drivers will finish in first and second place, which three drivers will finish in first, second, and third place, and also bets for the first and second place in the correct order, and the first, second, and third place in the correct order. The bets that require bettors to predict the order of the finish will come at massive odds, though they are also extremely difficult to get right.

Which Car Will Win

Drivers always race in teams, and though there is always a driver who will take the lead, the second driver can be hugely important. This can come into play especially if the main driver struggles on a certain circuit or has problems with their car. Punters can bet on a car team to win, such as Mercedes, Red Bull, McLaren, Aston Martin, and so on. A bet on a team will mean that if either of the drivers win the race, the bet will pay off, so for teams such as Ferrari, Mercedes, and Red Bull, Charles Leclerc or Carlos Sainz Jr, Lewis Hamilton or George Russel, or Max Verstappen on Sergio Perez, will need to win the race.

Head to Head

This exciting bet offers punters the chance to pick a winner between two drivers. There will be numerous head to head bets to pick from, combining the top drivers into pairs and odds will be given on either driver. Combinations may include Charles Leclerc vs Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen vs Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso vs Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen vs Charles Leclerc, and many more.

Fastest Lap

Each driver in the Monaco Grand Prix needs to race round the 3.33 km circuit 78 times, and the fastest wins. Whilst usually the driver who wins will also set the fastest lap at each event, this is no guarantee. The Monaco Grand Prix has quite a mixed record when it comes to how many times the winning racer also made the fastest lap, which makes betting on which racer will make the fastest lap in the race quite difficult. Despite this, it is quite a fun bet to place and can offer some great odds on individual drivers.

Live Betting

Once a race has started, the pre-event betting markets are replaced by the live bets. These may offer punters some of the same bets, such as which driver will win the race, podium finishers, correct finishers and more. The odds on each of the drivers in the race will dynamically change as they are updated in real time to reflect the likelihood that the driver will win or make a podium finish.

The big advantage of live betting is that it allows bettors to respond to the action as it takes place. Therefore, it is always worth keeping a very close eye on the markets and the odds.
