Betting on Street League Skateboarding

Street League Skateboarding

The Street League Skateboarding, or SLS, is a tournament that features 25 of the best professional street skateboarders in the world. It was founded by the professional skateboarder and entrepreneur Rob Dyrdek. Dyrdek was one of the top skateboarders in the 90s and early 2000s, setting some world records such as the longest board slide, at 30.6 metres in 2007, the highest skateboard ramp jump into water at 3.25 metres in 2007 and the farthest reverse ramp jump by a car at 27.2 metres in 2014. He was sponsored by Droors Clothing, which later became DC Shoes.

The SLS was founded in 2010, and is currently owned by the Thrill One Sports and Entertainment Company, and is organised by the World Skate, the premier governing body of skateboarding competitions and tournaments.

The SLS has been held at a number of different venues, including many in the United States such as Las Vegas in Nevada, Ontario in California, Glendale in Arizona, Newark in New Jersey, Kansas City in Missouri, Seattle in Washington, Los Angeles in California, Portland in Oregon, Chicago in Illinois, Huntington Beach in California, Salt Lake City in Utah, Lake Havasu in Arizona and Jacksonville in Florida

It has also been held in international venues such as Munich in Germany, Barcelona in Spain, Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil, London in the UK, Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and Sao Paulo in Brazil.

The popularity of the SLS amongst street skateboarding fans has grown during the years, and now the competition offers the largest monetary prize of all of the skateboarding tournaments.

The tournament has featured some of the biggest names in skateboarding who popularised the street variation of the sport, including skateboarders such as Nyjah Huston, Sean Malto, Ryan Sheckler, Paul Rodriguez, Kelvin Hoefler, Felipe Gustavo and many more. The women's street league series also features some of the top names in skateboarding, including Pamela Rosa, Rayssa Leal, Momji Nishiya, Funa Nakayama and Leticia Bufoni.

How to Bet On the Skateboarding Street Leagues

Many fans who watch the leagues enjoy placing bets on which of the athletes will win. These competitions have high stakes for the athletes and will definitely push them to perform their best. Fans can enjoy watching the athleticism of each of the contestants whilst enjoying the added excitement of the chance to place winning bets.

To Win

Wagers can be made on any of the contestants in the men’s or women’s street leagues. There are several leagues during each season, held in different venues in the United States with some held in international venues. Fans who follow and watch the events will know which skateboarders to look out for in the next competitions, and they will be able to form some ideas on who they think can win it. Odds will be offered for all of the contestants, meaning a bet can be placed on any of the skateboarders taking part in the event. There will naturally be favourites who are expected to either win the league or to at least come close. There will normally be long odds available on all the competitors, so even betting on the favourite can lead to sizable winnings.

To Finish In the Top Three

There are times when there is no clear favourite, or there are a few athletes who show enough talent and determination to win the league. Placing a bet on one of these athletes to win may be too risky for some punters, and they may choose to place a top three finish bet. This will require the skateboarder to finish amongst the top three at the end of an event. This bet comes with shorter odds but is definitely less risky to place, especially when there are evenly matched top ranking athletes competing against each other.

How to Research Bets

The best way to research bets is to watch a lot of skateboarding playbacks and get to know the contestants. Street skateboarding is quite a physically demanding sport, and though there are some athletes who have years of experience and know how to compete at the top level under huge stress, there are some tricks that are more suited to younger or teenaged skateboarders.

The younger entries who are in the first years of their professional careers are more than capable of causing an upset by winning one of the events. These players definitely pose a large threat to the top ranking skateboarders, but a lot of them may suffer with consistency.

By reading statistics alone, punters will definitely know what to look out for, but they may miss crucial details that can only be found when watching the athletes perform. It is important to look out for which tricks skateboarders are good at, as some will be more comfortable with certain tricks but have difficulty landing other ones. A mistake in street skateboarding events can prove to be highly costly, and if a skateboarder makes any mistakes even in the beginning of each event, it may damage their chances of winning.

While it is impossible to predict whether a contestant will land all of their tricks and jumps, there are skateboarders who have shown more consistency at the events and they definitely come with a great chance of winning each event.
