Betting on Pittsburgh Steelers 2022-23 NFL Games

The Pittsburgh Steelers were founded back in 1933, making them the seventh-oldest franchise in the NFL. They are among the most successful NFL franchises, having won the Super Bowl six times and they have played in sixteen conference championship games, more than any other team in the NFL.

How did the Pittsburgh Steelers Perform in the 2021 Season?

In four of the last ten seasons, the Pittsburgh Steelers won the AFC Northern Division, the last time being 2020. Last season they finished second and qualified for the Wild Card playoffs only to be convincingly beaten by Kansas City 42 – 21. In the 2022 regular season, the Steelers will have to face 6 playoff teams from the 2021 season.

Pittsburgh Steelers Changes for 2022

Following the end of the 2021 season, two-time Super Bowl winner and twice NFL season passing yards leader, Ben Roethlisberger retired. To fill the void, the Steelers brought in quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Previously contracted to the Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills, he made the 2018 Pro-Bowl following a strong season with the Chicago Bears when they won the 2018 NFC North Division title. Kenny Pickett will start as backup quarterback having been selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Free agents joining the Steelers for the 2022 season include Myles Jack as an inside linebacker, Gunner Olszewski as a wide receiver, Montravius Adams as a defensive tackle and Levi Wallace as a cornerback.

Outgoings from the 2021 roster include quarterback Joshua Dobbs, wide receivers Ray-Ray McCloud, James Washington and JuJu Smith-Schuster, as well as linebacker Marcus Allen.

General Manager Kevin Colbert retired last season and is replaced by Omar Khan and assistant general manager Andy Weidl.

Pittsburgh SteelersKey Players

A lot may depend on the fitness of T J Watt during the 2022 regular season for the Steelers. He made the most sacks in 2021 and was voted the Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year while also making the All-Pro Team. Myles Jack is in his first season with the Steelers and will need to show his experience as a linebacker, making tackles count. The defensive strength of the Steelers will come from sacks and tackles made by linebacker Alex Highsmith and defensive lineman Cameron Heyward with interceptions by Minkah Fitzpatrick playing as a defensive back.

Offensively the Steelers will look to rushing and touchdowns from running back Najee Harris and wide receiver Diontae Johnson.

Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers

There are many ways you can place a bet on the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2022 NFL season.

Moneyline

You can place a bet on the Steelers to win a game and the odds will vary depending on the game. For example, in October of the 2021 season, the Steelers had odds of 2.74 to beat the Cleveland Browns. In a game against Kansas City in January 2022, the Steelers had odds of 5.75 to win in the wild-card playoff.

Spread (Handicap Betting)

This bet is based on the point spread of the final result. You can bet on the favourite to win by a minimum number of points or back the underdog to win or lose at a lesser margin than the spread.

Using the 2021 season game against Las Vegas Raiders as an example, the Steelers were -5.5 favourite. If you placed your bet on the Steelers to win and they won the game by 6 points or more, then the bet would have won. You could also bet on the Raiders and win the bet if the team won the game or lost by no more than 5 points.

Total Points

This is a bet on the total number of points scored by both teams in a game. The markets provide a betting line and you bet on whether the total number of points will be over or under this line.

Taking the 2021 season game played in November against the Cincinnati Bengals as an example, the market came with a line of 43.5 points. If you bet over, you would need the teams to score 44 points or more and if you chose under, the teams would have to collectively score no more than 43 points. In total, 51 points were scored in that game, so those who bet over would have won.

Prop Wagers

These are bets on what may happen to the Pittsburgh Steelers as a team or to their players. Some examples include:

  • The total number of field goals that will be converted
  • Over/under on the receptions Diontae Johnson will make
  • The total number of touchdowns the Steelers will score
  • Over/under on the rushing yards Najee Harris will make
  • Over/under the number of touchdown passes Mitchell Trubisky will throw

Often there are extensive prop bets available, so it is worth taking a careful look at them. They can be placed pre-game or live, and are a fantastic way to back specific players.
