Betting on Kansas City Chiefs 2022-23 NFL Games

Established 63 years ago as the Dallas Texans, the franchise changed its name to the Kansas City Chiefs in 1963. Since then, the Chiefs are two-time winners of the Super Bowl, the last success being the 2019 season. With a total of 24 playoff appearances, the Chiefs have won the AFC West division for the past six consecutive seasons and a total of 12 times.

How did the Kansas City Chiefs Perform in the 2021 Season?

In 2021 the Kansas City Chiefs won the AFC West regular season with a 12 (wins) – 5 (losses) – 0 (tied) record. This contributed to a second-place finish in the AFC and qualification for their place in the postseason.

A comfortable win followed in the wild card playoff against Pittsburgh Steelers with a 42 – 21 win. They won their divisional playoff 42 – 36 in overtime over the Buffalo Bills but were unlucky not to reach the Super Bowl. Their luck ran out in the AFC Championship when they were beaten 27 – 24 by the Cincinnati Bengals.

Kansas City Chiefs Changes for 2022

Head coach Andy Reid, offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo all return for the 2022 season.

The most important signings for the 2022 player roster include wide receiver Ju Ju Smith-Schuster. The 2018 Pro-Bowl pick left the Pittsburgh Steelers and signed a one-year contract with the Chiefs. Increasing the depth of wide receivers is Marquez Valdes-Scantling who leaves the Green Bay Packers and signs a three-year contract with the Chiefs. Safety Justin Reid also signs a three-year contract after leaving the Houston Oilers.

Cornerback Charvarius Ward leaves the Chiefs and joins the San Francisco 49ers. Three-time Pro-Bowl pick Tyrann Matthieu leaves the Chiefs and joins New Orleans Saints. With new wide receivers joining the Chiefs, Tyreek Hill leaves after six seasons and signs for the Miami Dolphins. All three of these players were Super Bowl champions with the Chiefs in 2020.

Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs

There are many ways to bet on the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2022 season. Here are just a few of the more popular betting markets:

Moneyline

Are you confident the Chiefs are going to win their next scheduled NFL game? Then check out the odds and decide if you want to place a bet on them for an outright win. For example, in January 2022, the Chiefs faced the Buffalo Bills and were favourite to win with odds of 1.37. The Bills were underdogs at 2.15. The game ended with a win for Kansas City Chiefs, so a moneyline bet placed on them would have won.

Spread (Handicap Betting)

Spread bets apply a points handicap to the favourites in order to lengthen the odds and make betting on them a more attractive prospect.

Taking the same example as above when the Chiefs played the Bills, the Bills had a point spread of +2.5 and the Chiefs had a spread of -2.5. The Chiefs won the game by six points. If a bet had been placed on the Chiefs, it will have been successful as they won by 3 points or more. Backing the Bills and winning the bet would need them to win the game or lose no more than two points.

Total Points

With total point bets, the market provides a total points line and all you need to do is to bet whether the cumulative points scored by both teams will be over or under that value.

For example, in the 2021 wild card playoffs, the Chiefs faced the Steelers. Total points were set at 46.5 and the final result was 42 – 21 to the Chiefs. If you bet over you will have won because the total points scored were 63, well above the line set.

Prop Wagers

Prop bets can be a lot of fun and there are often many to choose from. Here are just a few examples:

  • Over/under the total number of yards quarterback Patrick Mahomes will create
  • Over/under the total number of touchdowns both teams score
  • Predict which team will get the most first downs in a game
  • Predict which player will score the first touchdown
  • Over/under the longest yardage touchdown scored
