Betting on Indianapolis Colts 2022-23 NFL Games

The Indianapolis Colt are two-time winners of the Super Bowl. The last time they won was in 2006. Established as the Baltimore Colts in 1953 they changed their name to Indianapolis Colts in 1984 and have reached the playoffs on 29 occasions. The last time they won the AFC South was in 2014.

How did the Indianapolis Colts Perform in the 2021 Season?

Last season, the Indianapolis Colts finished in second place in the AFC South ending the season with a 9 (wins) – 8 (losses) – 0 (tied) record. Unfortunately for the Indianapolis Colts, this was only enough for them to finish in 8th place in the Conference and they just missed out on qualification for the postseason playoffs.

Indianapolis Colts Changes for 2022

Cornerback Xavier Rhodes will be missed as he joins the Buffalo Bills. A veteran and long-serving tight end, Jack Doyle announced retirement from the game at the end of last season after eight seasons. Another cornerback, Rock Ya-Sin has been traded and joins the Las Vegas Raiders.

As a result of Xavier Rhodes and Rock Ya-Sin leaving, the Colts roster required a new cornerback. 2019 NFL defensive player of the season and cornerback Stephon Gilmore has joined as a free agent. Matt Ryan joins in free agency with the quarterback having left the Atlanta Falcons after 14 seasons winning the Most Valuable Player award in 2016. Mo Alie-Cox has re-signed for the Colts as tight end.

Indianapolis Colts Key Players

The experience and performances of Matt Ryan as quarterback will prove crucial to the Colts having a good season. He will need to create a partnership with a more youthful running back in Johnathan Taylor. Another running back and punt returner, Nyheim Hines will enter his 5th season with the Colts and contribute to the offensive play.

Betting on the Indianapolis Colts

Fans of the Indianapolis Colts and NFL betting have many markets available to them over the coming season:

Moneyline

If you are feeling confident that the Indianapolis Colts are going to win the next game, then place a moneyline bet. This is simply betting on the Colts for an outright win and odds will differ depending on the opponent. For example, in week 10 of the 2021 NFL season, the Indianapolis Colts played the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars were deemed underdogs and were provided with odds at 2.37 to win the game with the Colts considered favourites priced at 1.64. If you had bet on the Colts for an outright win then you will have won the bet as they beat the Jaguars 23 – 17.

Spread (Handicap Betting)

Rather than place a moneyline bet, a popular alternative is spread betting. It is designed to create a more level playing field between the favourites and the underdogs. The underdog is effectively given a head start by a set point margin.

Using another example from a game played in 2021, the Colts played the Miami Dolphins in week 4. The Colts were underdogs with a +2.5 points spread and odds at 1.93 and the Dolphins were favourites with -2.5 points priced at 1.87. The final result was a 27 – 17 win for the Colts. By betting on the Colts, the bet will have been won as they beat the Dolphins by more than 2.5 points.

Total Points

Another simple and fun way to bet on the Indianapolis Colts games is to predict how many points both teams will score collectively. The projected total points will be provided and all the bet requires is a decision if fewer or more points will be scored.

For example, the Colts played the Buffalo Bills in week 11 of the 2021 season and the betting line offered by the market was 49.5 points. Those who bet over were predicting at least 50 points would be scored while those who bet under were betting on no more than 49 points being scored. The game ended with a resounding 41 – 15 victory for the Colts and betting over won the bet.

Prop Wagers

Prop bets can be placed both before and during games. They are bets on the team or individual players and there are always several to choose from. Examples of prop bets include:

  • Over/under the total number of receptions tight end Mo Alie-Cox will catch
  • Predict which team will get the most first downs
  • Over/under the total number of successful field goals
  • Over/under the total number of rushing touchdowns by running back Nyheim Hines
  • Will either team score points in certain timeframes during the game

There are many options so take the time to familiarise yourself with them all.
