A Guide to United States Grand Prix Betting

United States Grand Prix

The US Grand Prix is a classic motor racing event that has been featured on and off since 1908. It has been held in different cities over the years including in Long Island, New York, in Riverside, California, in Phoenix, Arizona, in Indianapolis, Indiana and finally in Austin Texas. In Texas, the race is run on the Circuit of the Americas, a 5.5km motor racing track that was designed by Herman Tilke, who has designed a number of other racing tracks such as the Sepand circuit, Shanghai circuit, Yas Marina circuit, Istanbul circuit, Bahrain circuit, Yeongam circuit and Buddh circuit.

Currently, Lewis Hamilton holds the record for the most wins with 6, in 2007, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Michael Schumacher is the second most successful driver here, with 5 wins in 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Graham Hill and Jim Clark have won three times at the US Grand Prix, and drivers David Bruce-Brown, Jackie Stewart, James Hunt, Carlos Reutemann and Ayrton Senna have all won twice here.

How to Bet on the United States Grand Prix

Formula 1 races can be incredibly dramatic and highly exciting to watch. It is the most popular motorsport with a huge fanbase in Europe and South America, mostly in Brazil. When it comes to betting on the race, there are several options. Here are some of the most common Formula 1 bets as well as a handful of more intriguing ones that can be hugely fun to try out.

Race Winner

Bets can be placed on any of the competing drivers to win. Odds will be offered for each individual driver, and punters can place money on any of the contestants. Fans who have watched a lot of Formula 1 and know the drivers well, or know the US Grand Prix well, have an advantage, and those who don’t will find that it is possible to do a great deal of research ahead of the race.

Podium Finish

If it is hard to predict who will win, bettors can try the podium finish bet. Here, a driver will only need to finish the race in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd place for the bet to win. The odds will be lower than the bet on the winner, but the risk will be significantly lower. The best way to take advantage of podium finish bets is to look for a racer who is not a title contender but looks like a strong option for finishing in the top 3.

Correct Finishers

Podium finish bets are safer bets than the race winner bets, but there is also a bet which is far more difficult to predict. Bets for which drivers will finish in 1st and 2nd place, or 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, in the correct order are incredibly specific bets. These bets are usually offered by the sportsbook in high profile races where there is a clear title contender or contenders, and so the punter has to predict in what order they will finish.

In case of prediction of the top 3 in the correct order, this will be trickier, although the bet comes with astronomical odds, making it a favourite amongst the more adventurous punters.

Which Car Will Win

In Formula 1, all of the driving teams compete with different car manufacturers. The cars themselves are as famous, if not more, than the drivers and these include car suppliers such as Aston Martin, McLaren, Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull Racing and more. In the Formula 1 world championship, each team will have two drivers, usually one of these drivers will aim to become a title winner and the other will be there to win in races where the title contender may struggle. These teams are used to try and propel one driver forward, whilst the other wins at the circuits where the first driver may struggle, or have time deductions in a race. The secondary driver will make sure that the competition does not close the gap, so they are a very important part of each team.

Punters can bet on the different driving teams to win, a bet that allows fans of one car to freely place money on their preference and not worry about which driver wins the race.

Fastest Lap

Bets can be placed on which team or driver makes the fastest lap. This bet is a bit more difficult to predict than the other bets as any driver can make the fastest lap at any time during the races. However, this bet comes with some fantastic odds and is an attractive side bet for punters looking for markets with long odds.

Live Bets

Bets can be placed during a race as well as before. The odds of the live bets will be updated in real time, meaning that as certain drivers emerge as the leaders in the race, their odds will fall, whereas drivers who fall behind will have increased odds. Punters can use this to their benefit, and choose moments when the odds on their driver are longest.

One great way to keep informed during a race is to have a live stats table nearby, or to listen to the commentary. Statistics such as weather conditions, the timing of each lap, when will the driver make a pit stop and more can help with making winning live bets.
